You're right, there're some differences between speaking and writing English. Actually, you don't need to get a foreigner to make conversations, you can listen to them on the internet, to practice the listening skill, which very useful for you to improve your communication skills.

I am not totally agree with the idea of just need to listen to the foreigner’s voice on the internet to improve the whole communication skill.
Communication includes both listening and speaking skill. So by listening you can get more familiar with different accents, by speaking(correctly pronounciate) you also can improve listening skill, cause your listening skill also depends on how correctly pronounciate you can. The more correcly sepaking you have the easier listening you get.
So I would go with both, listening and speaking, they should be practiced all the same time.
Try to get some of the videos on youtube about pronounciation you will see all of the teachers request you to speak loud in any vocabulary, why? Cause then you will listen to yourself and practice your brain to have the reaction from the English sound.

Well, I think both of you are right . While listening to native accents on internet and movies could help you to improve your listening skill, talking to foreigners will surely help improve your foreign language natural reflections/reactions. My case particularly, back in 1990s, I spoke to myself in a plastic pail for years just to listen to my own pronunciation

10 min is too long to transcribe (it would take at least 3-4 pages). I think a 3 min video would be a good starting point, at least for a lazy guy like me

In my opinion, if we have something same with English club could be better. Or just simply a group seat coffee together every sunday morning (for example), or sometime going some where else... with only one principle: All in English.
But at first, we need a Leader of this group, the one who E excellent like Sweethome. I am sure that, many people in otofun could be.

You guys can start with one of the breaking news in the 10 minutes video depend on what you can do first. It will improve our skills.
Seating together is a good way to practice but it may improve our english slowlly
I suggest UAZ as an excellent teacher

A Western person said to me that:
" Well, the way you learn English language is good. You can learn it on the internet .But is is not the best way.
The best way is you should make friend with other foreigners. Maybe you can learn something new from them.

We've had coffee chatting like your idea years ago. At that time, my level was at ABC... hehe, and I think many others were same . Longtime no see them, but I think all of us have improvement. As of me, thank to those meetings & my work, my skill has been improved so much

Great idea. Cause not everyone can see the very fact is that it doesnot make so much sense if we just practise some greatings or self-introducing or erratic dialogs.. we should dig it into some more specific topic like economic news, scientific excerpt, automobile tech..etc. English is just our tool really.

I dont think there IS a best way to learn, but there really some appropriate ways to someone. Not everyone have chances, or time to hang out with natives, or even so, the foreign couterparts do not neccessarily mean to be helpful to you, esp when it comes to writing or reading.

Both the words 'you guy /you guys' have rich meaning as someone translate it into Vietnamese language.
Personally, I could translate 'you guys" into vietnamese: Chúng mày/ bọn mày /các bạn/anh chị em...or something like that . The word " guys" used to address a group of people of either sex:

For example:
Hey hey ,you guys, let's go !

Translated it into Kinh voice:
-Nàooo , chúng mày đi thôi ( friendly )
-Nào nào, bọn mày lướt đi (angry)
-Nào nàooo, anh chị em đi thôi ạ (a bit polite)

Basically , It is a little bit polite way toward other people ,of course. But it does not express rude or disrespectfully to speaker anyway. Everyone can understand many ways who wants from some sentences of English speakers.

In other hands, the meaning of the words depend on the situatuon and the people you are talking about.

Which E skills is important depends on you and your work. There are just two skills namely productive and receptive ones. In some cases you are silver-tongered so you are suitable to become an interpreter for example. In other cases you suit to be a translator instead.
Speaking E frequently does not help you in listening better but quite on the contrary.

There were many people out side who have no chance to meet native people for practising English, included me.
When i have started to practise English long time ago, I had nothing. The word " Nothing " You can understand many meaning ways of it
I just read some information on the internet and decided it is time to change myself.
Just do or not. No need to talk much or explain the reason why i can't do.
Just create the chance by yourself. Why not?
