The world's first Sports Activity Coupé.
A new vehicle concept.
The BMW X6 is the world’s first Sports Activity Coupé. It combines the agility, performance and athletic design of a big BMW Coupé with the versatility and raised seating position of an SAV. Once again, BMW has defined a totally new vehicle concept. What’s more, the BMW X6 offers two world premieres: Dynamic Performance Control (fitted as standard), and the all-new Twin Turbo V8 petrol engine with High Precision Injection - the most efficient engine in its class.
The future of curves.
Dynamic Performance Control in the BMW X6.
For the first time in a BMW, Dynamic Performance Control gives the BMW X6 unique new cornering qualities. Seamless drive distribution to the left- and right-hand rear wheels improves track stability, regardless of whether the driver is accelerating or not. That means you can enter bends more precisely and cross-accelerate faster with optimised grip when you accelerate out. Together with the all-wheel xDrive system, Dynamic Performance Control delivers enhanced agility and dynamics on all surfaces.
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC).
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) adds to safety by facilitating vehicle control even in adverse driving conditions or on tough surfaces.
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) is the nucleus of the chassis control systems in BMW vehicles. It ensures the highest possible levels of stability when driving, and it maximizes traction of all wheels when setting off or accelerating. It is able to detect the first signs of oversteering or understeering and helps keep the vehicle safely on course, even if the tyres have varying levels of grip.
Sophisticated sensors permanently check how the vehicle is driving. Information comes a range of sensors monitoring wheel rotation, steering angle, lateral forces, pressure and yaw (degree of rotation around the vertical axis). A simulation model stored in the DSC control unit to ensure stability ("one-/two-track model") and can be compared information coming from the steering wheel and accelerator: if there is too great a difference between the model and how the vehicle is currently travelling, DSC acts to increase stability or traction.
The engine and brake management systems are targeted specifically; xDrive is also included in all-wheel drive vehicles. Reducing or increasing the engine torque or braking individual wheels can improve stability and traction. Active Steering’s integrated yaw regulation system can even help significantly reduce steering effort and the extent of DSC’s contribution to stability.
High Precision Injection.
High Precision Injection, the innovative petrol direct injection system from BMW, makes the combustion process more efficient. The engine delivers greater performance and a significant reduction in fuel consumption.
High Precision Injection is part of BMW EfficientDynamics, BMW's package of innovations that unite dynamic performance and fuel efficiency.
The core element of High Precision Injection technology is the piezo injector positioned between the valves and the spark plug. Inside the injector are multiple layers of piezo crystals which expand instantly when electricity is passed through them.
This forces a dose of the fuel/air mix out the injector needle and through the outlet (which is no wider than a human hair) and into the combustion chamber under a pressure of 200 bar. The cone-shaped cloud, the size of a thumb nail, is precisely injected onto the spark and combusts with an excess of oxygen. In contrast to conventional injection systems, BMW's High Precision Injection requires very little fuel and eliminates the waste caused by unburned fuel being sprayed on the walls of the combustion chamber.
Thanks to the piezo injectors, fuel can injected in just 0.14 milliseconds, making it possible to introduce multiple injections of fuel within one single combustion process. The high-performance, flexible electronic control system adjusts the timing and dose of the injected fuel according to the engine power demand, operating temperature and cylinder pressure. This ensures that combustion is precisely controlled, extremely clean and outstandingly efficient combustion - in every driving situation.
Information about the technical data.
All dimensions in the technical drawings are in millimetres.
The technical data specified applies to vehicles in the German market. The models illustrated may, in part, include optional equipment and accessories not fitted as standard. According to the specific requirements of other markets, alterations may occur regarding models, standard and optional equipment as described in the text and illustrations. For precise information, please contact your BMW dealer. Subject to change in design and equipment. Subject to error. Equipment specific to national markets is not represented here.
Unladen weight: the figure quoted includes a 90 per cent tank filling, 68 kg for the driver and 7 kg for luggage. Unladen weight applies to vehicles with standard equipment. Optional equipment may increase this figure.
Composite fuel consumption: the engines of the BMW X6 meet the EU4 (N1) emissions standard, the X6 xDrive30d and X6 xDrive35d meet the EU4 (N1-G3) emissions standard. Diesel models are fitted with a particle filter. Fuel consumption is determined in accordance with the ECE driving cycle made up of approximately one third urban traffic and two thirds extra-urban driving (based on the distance covered). CO2 emissions are measured in addition to fuel consumption as such.
Height of the X6 xDrive30d with roof railing 1,699 mm.
